ISG Tax is a team of indirect tax experts, with extensive knowledge of VAT, customs, excise and CAP (sugar tax) duties.
Based in the North-west of the UK, we work from an historic converted church hall. ISG has three indirect tax experts working within the business (Darren, Richard and Chris), collectively with over 35 years of knowledge and experience, as well as an efficient administration team.
We work with clients all around the world in sectors ranging from petrochemicals, medical, confectionery and electronics industries, as well as e-services.
ISG Tax Services
The services we offer our clients range from simple VAT filings, through to a complete VAT Management service, where we download reports from the ERP and reconcile the returns to the accounting system.
Indirect taxes can be a huge burden to many businesses, especially those with a complicated supply chain. We work closely with our clients, understanding their needs and issues to lessen this burden.
Brexit
The biggest issue facing our clients right now is the potential impact of Brexit. With the UK scheduled to leave the EU by March 2019, and the slow start to Brexit negotiations, there is a lot of uncertainty around what the future will hold.
It is very likely that the current system of free movement of goods, whereby intrastat declarations are made and VAT self-accounted for, will disappear and be replaced with import VAT and customs duties. This will lead to additional administrative and financial burdens for importers and exporters, as well as delays at the ports of entry and exit as goods are declared and processed.
“Making Tax Digital” Program
At the same time, the UK tax authorities (HMRC) are continuing with their ‘Making Tax Digital’ programme. The plan is to see all UK VAT registered businesses making automated VAT filings using digital software from early 2019.
A pilot scheme is due to commence before the end of 2017, allowing a test run for accountants and software developers before the regime is implemented.
